Some Things to Know About Pain Meds and Old Age

Chances are, you have been led to believe that Acetaminophen, Aspirin, and Ibuprofen are safe to take.  Unfortunately, all of them take a toll on your kidneys.  In most cases, the damage caused by these drugs is irreversible.  As a result, there is actually a lifetime limit to the amount of these drugs that you can take safely.  By the time you reach your advanced years, it may not even be safe for you to take the mildest pain meds.  In fact, many elderly people wind up on dialysis, or suffering from heart failure because their bodies cannot cope with pain killers.

On the other side of the equation, arthritis and other types of joint pain can be unbearable.  If you want to do something about them, it may still be best to find a way to avoid pain relievers.  You may actually be better off if you try a few herbal remedies, or other forms of therapy.  Regardless of whether you use epsom salt poultices to reduce inflammation, or herbs that rebuild your joints, at least you will not be causing damage to other parts of your body.  You may even be surprised to find that you will not be in pain, even on a rainy or damp day.
