What are the benefits?
There’s limited research on the benefits of this practice. In general, they’re based on anecdotal reports by practitioners of the Five Tibetan Rites and the opinions of medical professionals and yoga instructors.

Reported benefits include:

relief from joint pain and stiffness,
improved strength and coordination,
better circulation,
reduced anxiety,
better sleep,
improved energy,
a youthful appearance.

How to do the 5 Tibetan Rites!

While each rite is meant to be practiced 21 times a day, you can begin by doing them less frequently.

During the first week, practice each rite 3 times a day. Add 2 repetitions per rite the following week. Continue adding 2 reps per rite each week until you’re doing 21 rounds of each rite every day.

Rite 1!

The purpose of the first rite is to speed up the chakras. It’s common for beginners to feel dizzy during this exercise.

Stand up straight. Stretch your arms outward until they’re parallel with the floor. Face your palms down.
While staying in the same spot, slowly spin your body in a clockwise direction. Without bending your head forward, keep your eyes open and cast toward the ground.
Do 1 to 21 repetitions.
Spin as many times as you can, but stop when you feel slightly dizzy. You’ll be able to spin more over time. It’s best to avoid excessive spinning, which is said to overstimulate the chakras.

Rite 2!

During the second rite, it’s important to practice deep rhythmic breathing. You should continue the same breathing pattern in between each repetition.

To do this rite, you’ll need a carpeted floor or yoga mat.

Lie flat on your back. Place your arms at your sides, palms on the floor.
Inhale and lift your head, moving your chin toward your chest. Simultaneously raise your legs straight up, keeping your knees straight.
Exhale and slowly lower your head and legs to the starting position. Relax all your muscles.
Complete 1 to 21 repetitions.
If you have difficulty straightening your knees, bend them as needed. Try to straighten them each time you perform the rite.

Rite 3!

Like the second rite, the third rite requires deep rhythmic breathing. You can also practice this rite while closing your eyes, which helps you focus inward.

Kneel on the floor, knees shoulder-width apart and hips aligned over your knees. Straighten your trunk and place your palms on the back of your thighs, below your buttocks.
Inhale and drop your head back, arching your spine to open your chest.
Exhale and drop your head forward, moving your chin toward your chest. Keep your hands on your thighs during the entire rite.
Do 1 to 21 repetitions.

Rite 4!

The fourth rite, sometimes called Moving Tabletop, is also done with rhythmic breathing. Your hands and heels should stay in place during the entire exercise.

Sit on the floor and extend your legs straight ahead, feet shoulder-width apart. Put your palms on the floor at your sides, fingers facing forward. Straighten your trunk.
Drop your chin toward your chest. Inhale and gently drop your head back. Simultaneously lift your hips and bend your knees until you’re in a tabletop position, with your head gently tilted back. Contract your muscles and hold your breath.
Exhale, relax your muscles, and return to starting position.
Complete 1 to 21 repetitions.

Rite 5!

The fifth rite involves both the Downward-Facing Dog and Upward-Facing Dog poses. For this reason, it’s often called Two Dogs. This move also requires a steady breathing rhythm.

Sit on the floor with your legs crossed. Plant your palms in front of you.
Extend your feet behind you, toes curled and shoulder-width apart. Straighten your arms and arch your spine while keeping the tops of your legs on the ground. Drop your head back into Upward-Facing Dog.
Then, inhale and lift your hips, moving your body into an upside down “V” shape. Move your chin toward your chest and straighten your back into Downward-Facing Dog.
Exhale and move back into Upward-Facing Dog.
Do 1 to 21 repetitions.
To support your lower back, you can bend your knees when moving in between poses.

Safety tips!

Like all exercise programs, the Five Tibetan Rites should be done with care. Start with gentle movements and a low number of reps.

Take extra precaution if you have:

Heart or breathing problems. Before trying these exercises, talk to your doctor to find out they’re safe for you to do.
Neurological disorders. Disorders like Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis can cause poor balance. If you have one of these conditions, these exercises may not be safe for you to perform.
Conditions that cause dizziness. If you’re prone to dizziness, talk to a doctor before trying the first rite. The spinning motion may aggravate various conditions, including vertigo, circulatory issues, or nausea from medication.
Pregnancy. The spinning and bending movements may not be safe if you’re pregnant.
Recent surgery. The rites may cause complications if you’ve had surgery within the last 6 months.

What can you do to transition into menopause and maintain healthy hormone balance and minimize the potential for side effects? Side effects like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, depression. The symptoms of menopause can be life altering.

For many women it happens because as they’re going into menopause, they have an estrogen dominance scenario. Even though estrogen levels are dropping as women go into menopause, their estrogen, progesterone ratios are still very, very skewed creating an estrogen dominance effect, and estrogen dominance can lead to or contribute to a lot of the symptoms that women might experience during menopause.

One of the effects that exercise has for women is it reduces a protein in the bloodstream called sex hormone binding globulin. This particular hormone can disrupt the way that your sex steroids work and the less you exercise, the higher levels of SHBG that you make. Basic body weight maneuvers that will help balance out your SHBG, your sex hormone binding globulin.

Many of the chemicals that we find create estrogen and hormone imbalance and disruption leading to an increase in menopausal symptoms are found in air and water.

Avoid eating off of plastic, avoid heating foods in plastic. Avoid eating with plastic forks, avoid cans with plastic linings.

A gluten-free diet, science shows, really works best when you are true gluten-free or grain-free, when you eliminate all grains from the diet and understand why that’s my last recommendation is because many women with hormonal imbalances have them as a result of the exposure to gluten.

Gluten can disrupt estrogen, progesterone. Gluten can disrupt follicle stimulating hormone.

It’s been shown to to disrupt pretty much all of your sex steroids and the inflammation it creates can disrupt your cortisol and insulin balances leading to sex steroid hormone imbalances.

So gluten is a major hormone disruptor and if you’re really struggling with the symptoms as you go through menopause, it’s one of the first things I have my clients do and oftentimes that leads to tremendous success in their symptoms and in the way that they feel and in the balancing of their hormones.

Your doctor has recommended that you undergo a balloon angioplasty with a stent implant. But what does that actually mean?

The heart is located in the center of the chest. It’s job is to keep blood continually circulating throughout the body.

The blood vessels that supply the body with oxygen-rich blood are called arteries.
The arteries that supplies blood to the heart muscle itself are called coronary arteries.
Sometimes, these blood vessels can narrow or become blocked by plaque deposits, restricting normal blood flow.

In simple terms, a balloon angioplasty with stent insertion is a procedure used to increase the amount of blood flowing through the coronary artery.

During a balloon angioplasty, a heart specialist will insert a thin tube into an artery in your arm or leg and gently guide it towards the problem area in your heart.

Once the tube is in place, a small balloon is briefly inflated in order to widen the narrowed artery.

A short length of mesh tubing called a stent is then inserted into the newly widened artery.
During and after the procedure, your doctor will take x-rays in order to monitor your progress.

Video abstract of review paper “Patient considerations in the management of menopausal symptoms: role of conjugated estrogens with bazedoxifene” to be published in the open access journal Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management by Kagan et al.

Abstract: Menopausal symptoms (eg, hot flushes and vaginal symptoms) are common, often bothersome, and can adversely impact women’s sexual functioning, relationships, and quality of life. Estrogen–progestin therapy was previously considered the standard care for hormone therapy (HT) for managing these symptoms in nonhysterectomized women, but has a number of safety and tolerability concerns (eg, breast cancer, stroke, pulmonary embolism, breast pain/tenderness, and vaginal bleeding) and its use has declined dramatically in the past decade since the release of the Women’s Health Initiative trial results. Conjugated estrogens paired with bazedoxifene (CE/BZA) represent a newer progestin-free alternative to traditional HT for nonhysterectomized women. CE/BZA has demonstrated efficacy in reducing the frequency and severity of vasomotor symptoms and preventing loss of bone mineral density in postmenopausal women. CE/BZA provides an acceptable level of protection against endometrial hyperplasia and does not increase mammographic breast density. Compared with traditional estrogen–progestin therapy, it is associated with lower rates of breast pain/tenderness and vaginal bleeding. Patient-reported outcomes indicate that CE/BZA improves menopause-specific quality of life, sleep, some measures of sexual function (especially ease of lubrication), and treatment satisfaction. This review looks at the rationale for selection and combination of CE with BZA at the dose ratio in the approved product and provides a detailed look at the efficacy, safety, tolerability, and patient-reported outcomes from the five Phase III trials. Patient considerations in the choice between CE/BZA and traditional HT (eg, tolerability, individual symptoms, and preferences for route of administration) are also considered.
